In order to obey their mother’s words, all the five brothers are married with due ceremony to Draupadi. Arjuna, the skilful archer, wins Draupadi’s hand. Later they proceed to Panchala to attend the Swayamvara of Draupadi.
They live in the guise of mendicants at Ekachakrapura. Acting on the coded warning given by Vidura, the Pandavas manage to escape from the burning house of shellac. The feats of strength preformed by Bheema, and Arjuna’s skill at wielding the bow awake jealousy in the minds of Duryodhana and the other Kuru princes.ĭuryodhana plots the exile of the Pandavas to the city of Varanavata. The great Dronacharya trains the Kuru princes in the art of war. When Pandu, the father of the Pandavas, dies in the forest, his wife Kunti returns to Hastinapura with the five boys. This volume describes the lineage of the Kuru princes. The recital took place in the august presence of King Janamejaya, a great-grandson of Vyasa, and the many learned sages who had assembled for Janamejaya’s Sarpa Satra (a twelve-year-long Yajna). Veda Vyasa’s epic on the Bharata race was first recited in public by his disciple Vaishampayana at the behest of the ageless seer Vyasa himself. Volume 1: The Kuru Princes of Hastinapura
AMAR CHITRA KATHA RAMAYANA FULL
In this complete 3-volume hardbound set, the epic is narrated in its full glory over more than 1300 pages. Mahabharata is the world’s longest epic poem. Bas reliefs and paintings depicting scenes from the Ramayana are to be found not only in temples all over India, but also in Indonesia and Angkor Vat, Kampuchea. The Ramayana has made a deep and abiding impact. Among these are the Hindi, Tamil and Bengali versions of the Ramayana written by Tulsidas in the North Kamban in the South and Krittivasa in the East. Valmiki’s monumental work influenced other great poems on the same theme. The seventh section, the Uttara Kanda, is probably an interpolation. There are six sections – The Bala Kanda, the Ayodhya Kanda, the Aranya Kanda, the Kishkindha Kanda, the Sundara Kanda and the Yuddha Kanda.
The few verses which do so are considered interpolations. In the Puranas, Rama is described as an avatar of Vishnu, but Valmiki does not refer to him as God. It is said that Brahma assured Valmiki that “as long as the mountains stand and the rivers flow, so long shall the Ramayana be read by men”. Valmiki’s Ramayana is believed to be the first poetic work written in Sanskrit it is, therefore, referred to as the Adikavya.
